And here is what morning light brings...

Its looking a little different around here from yesterday! We now have about seven to eight inches of snow on the ground, and it is still snowing and blowing. Supposedly it will move on by about 5:00 this afternoon. Not much happening around town today ...other than the kids are getting their first real chance to play in the snow this winter!
After I turned off the lights to go to bed last night, I peeked out for a status report. I couldn't believe how bright it was at 11:00 at night! I know it is always brighter out when there is snow on the ground, but it was cloudy and snowing-obviously no moon to be seen. Where did all that light come from? This is my back street lights and no flash. I can rarely see my fence at this time of night let alone the details of my neighbors house. It was one of those moments of peace and beauty you would like to be able to capture and revisit!

Waiting on a winter storm...

Tuesday has arrived, now we will see if it brings the winter storm that has been the hot topic for the past few days. The weather guru's are telling us we will receive 6 to 16 inches of snow with lots of wind. A few area schools called school off for the day, some had late starts, and some with early dismissals.
I started this post this morning, but got called into work early. So...instead of it being 8 am it is almost 5 pm. Everyone kept an eye on a window watching and wondering when 'it' will start. The bewitching hour of 3:00 came and went with no sign of the approaching blizzard-- although it was cloudy, winds were calm and it was 37 degrees. I finished at work about 3:00 and ran to do a couple of errands before heading home. Some wet flakes started falling shortly after 4:00. I got home, put my things away, changed clothes and now- not even an hour later- we have this. Guess it has found us. Stop by tomorrow and I will give you a peek at what our first real storm of the winter left behind. I sure am glad it is almost March--this stuff shouldn't stick around too long no matter how much we get. Good to be home for the evening!

Finished it Friday!

I finally finished up my Chocolate Jellybean Bunny and my Peter Cottontail Book and got some pictures taken to share. Hurrah!! Now to write descriptions and list them on Etsy. I'm just thinking how far I've come the last few months. I opened my Etsy shop last April with a handful of items. I listed them and they sat there..not so much fun...I was scratching my head trying to figure out why I had thought this was a good idea. Towards the end of the summer, my friend Natalie from Tins and Treasures, encouraged me to join an Etsy team, set up a facebook page and a blog. I'm thinking this sounded a little complicated and outside my comfort zone, but...I've always enjoyed learning new things. Wow- I had NO idea what I was in for. I kind of thought I knew my way around a computer, talk about humbling! I know I would have probably closed my Etsy shop and hung all of this up if it wasn't for the great support from the gals on the PAFA and OFG teams I joined, and a couple of private sessions with Natalie. I have to say a great big 'Thank You' for all the help I've received in this adventure. I am still working on increasing the inventory in my shop, but hey- I actually have a blog, a facebook page, and I am on Pinterest! I have also learned how to do my own shipping, and my photography is coming along. And I've passed my 50 sales mark! I think I will stick around for awhile! Have a great day...Deb

Here is a peek at what is on my work table this week. First I have jellybeans and a chocolate bunny I painted yesterday. The jellybeans need coffee staining and the bunny needs a face and clothes. And there are candles that need flames painted and some body work! In the picture below, you see what will be an awesome Easter book...hopefully soon! I need to paint and coffee stain the cover and carrots, burn the edges of the story and picture pages, and iron the fabric pages that have been coffee stained. Then the pictures will get glued to the fabric pages and assembly can begin! And there is that chocolate bunny that needs an outfit. The winds look calm at the moment so I am headed outside to burn edges! Have a great day!

Making a background for pictures taking

Here is how I made a frame to hang white fabric over to use as a background for photos... for only about $4.50! I bought three 5 foot pieces of 1/2 inch pvc pipe, 2 elbow pieces (L shaped) and 2 tee pieces (like the letter T). I found the pvc pipe at my local Menards. I cut one 3 foot piece, two 2 foot pieces, two 18 inch pieces and two 6 inch pieces. I had a three foot piece left. I did use my table saw to cut the pvc pipe, but you can use most any type of hand saw to cut it too. I don't think a carpet knife would work though, you need a serrated edge! The length of the pieces can be adjusted according to your needs. I made mine fairly big as I have some larger items.
Start by putting an elbow piece on each end of the 3 foot piece; then insert a two foot piece into the bottom of each elbow. You will now have a U shaped piece that will hold your background cloth. Next take a tee piece--locate the top of the tee (the side with 2 openings) and insert an 18 inch piece in one side and a 6 inch piece in the other side; repeat with the remaining pieces. These will be your balance supports.
Now all you have to do is insert each leg of the U piece into one of the balance supports and you are done! Doesn't get much easier than that! Quick to put together and easy to break down for storage.
I used an old chenille bedspread and cut a piece measuring 57 inches by 69 inches. I know this is much larger than the frame but you want to allow a couple of feet to hang over the back so it doesn't keep falling down. You may need to pin it if you use a light weight fabric. Of course, you could sew a pocket at the top and slide the pipe through it like a curtain. Now I need to start shooting pictures! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Here was my table this morning- full of started items needing arms, clothes, carrots, wings and more.
And here is my table late this afternoon. Everything all put together and dressed! I had a pretty productive day. It kind of looks like all the bears on my wall paper border are watching!

Got my flowers done...finally!

I took a little longer than I anticipated, but I finally got my flowers to grow! I haven't decided if I am going to grunge them or not. The birds seem happy among the flowers. Now to get them listed and in my shop.

A new spring treasury for your viewing pleasure...

Here it is Super Bowl Sunday. The sun is shining in so warm as I'm looking at this wonderful 'Colors of Spring' treasury I have been featured in. But when I look out the window to enjoy the scenery outside- there are no leaves or flowers. It has been a wonderfully mild winter so I'm not complaining, but I am anxious to see some of those colors of spring outside my window! Hope you take time to enjoy this treasury and have a wonderful day...may your team win! Deb
